I also think this system would help in the Pacific/naval invasions because I always found them to be flawed in HOI. Even if you are close to entering the next province, you can Stop them or change directions and they would instantly start from the center again. Same with moving units to different provinces. But as soon as you halt the attack, your units instantly are back at the center of their province. I always found it rather weird that lets say you're attacking Stalingrad and the arrows even show that you're getting closer and closer inside the province as the arrow fills up. I think I'll start with one for now and it's one of the biggest change I want to see from HOI5 is a 'Dynamic Frontline'. Before you say: "FIX HOI4 FIRST!!!!l" This is just a fun wishlist and for things that will likely NOT appear in HOI4.
